Is government the answer?

This is what happens when people rely on government too much. When they don't get what they need, they protest (essentially throw an en mass temper tantrum targeted against) the government for not doing enough. Folks who don't rely on government would be thankful for what they get and would spend the energy helping others and helping themselves rather than protesting.

I suspect that Haiti is so poor (especially as compared to the geographically equivalent DR next door) because they are a culture so dependent on government and totally lacking in initiative.

That's their choice, but we see the results: The aftermath of misfortune is much greater. Do we want to move that way? If you think we shouldn't, look around. That is definitely the direction we are headed.

Government does not solve problems. It compounds the problems it tries to solve.
