It's huge news: Five top terrorism officials have said it is "certain" that there will be an attempted terror attack in the next three to six months! Run for cover!

This is not news. We haven't gone six months without an attempted terror attack in years. These violent haters keep trying. So far, we have avoided a huge death toll. Up until about a year ago, our relative safety was mostly due to an effective program of anti-terrorism, combined with some luck. This year, it has mostly been luck, such as with the incompetence of the crotch bomber. We weren't so lucky at Fort Hood.

So, it's no big news that the terrorists will keep trying. That's not the big worry. The big worry is that, due to our approach to the War on Terror as merely being a law enforcement issue, there is a greater chance of an attack succeeding. It is this increased chance of a successful attack that should have us afraid, very afraid. Of course, the senator made sure she slipped in the word "attempted." I think she knew that the answer would have to be "certain," and that this would help numb us to impending future successful attacks. Be prepared for a gentle onslaught of "It certainly will happen," getting us used to the idea, so that its inevitability cannot reasonably be blamed on those who have greatly increased the possibility of a large and successful terror attack.
