Candidate tries to remove anti-religion sign.
Why is this sign displayed in the state capitol? They allow signs that celebrate the holidays for all religions, but this sign does not celebrate a religious holiday. Instead, it denigrates the religions whose displays with which it shares space. None of the other displays insult each other. The other signs recognize holidays which is actually celebrated by religions represented by large numbers of constituents. Kelly (R, IL) says the sign is "hate speech." It is. "Hate speech" is not criminal and should be protected, like any other form of speech. But, that is not to say that the government needs to promote it with a sign in the capitol building. This Freedom from Religion group seems to define itself by hate and anger towards others who do not believe similarly. No wonder its leader came off as unhappy during that Fox News debate I posted about earlier! |
