Man tries to blow up plane?

The question mark in the above link title is because details (even hours after the incident) are sketchy and conflicting. Yet the media does not seem to be banging down doors demanding answers. What has happened to these erstwhile bulldogs?

Is this a terror attack or no? The government (with incessant prodding by the media--if necessary) needs to do a better job of keeping us informed.

The man is from Nigeria and his name is Abdul Malevah (sp?). He claims to have connections to al Qaeda. Rep Peter King (R, NY) says there is a nexus with al Qaeda (whatever that means).

This is a failed terrorist attack, not a foiled attack. The would-be terrorist lit the material. It just did not explode.

It's beginning to look like this thread needs to be moved to The War on Terror (even if the current administration thinks there isn't one.

Wacko Security Changes

You gotta wonder if these terrorist attacks aren't primarily aimed at getting us to add a bunch of stupid new security procedures and rules, which, once published, will be incredibly easy to get around.

Take the ya-gotta-stay-in-your-seat-for-the-last-hour rule. Law abiding citizens will be wetting themselves, while the mad bomber will visit the restroom an hour and fifteen minutes before landing so he can strap on.

Homeland Security Secretary Napolitano said that we did not have enough information to keep the bomber off the Northwest flight.

Let's take an inventory:

He bought a one-way ticket.
He had no luggage.
He had an Islamic-sounding name.*
His father warned us, as recently as last month, that his son had terrorist ties.

What else do we need?!?

*Yeah, I know this is politically incorrect. But, the fact remains that people named Jensen aren't trying to kill Americans by the hundreds at a time. We should not stop and search everyone who has an Arab or Muslim name, but when they buy a one-way ticket and have no luggage, their name is just one more red flag. How many red flags does it take before security gives someone other than granny a pat-down?

Oh, BTW, the bomb was in his underwear. So, now we need to take off our shoes and underwear as we pass through security?
