On a recent flight, after a flight attendant asked all passengers to turn off their cell phones, Senators Schumer and and Gillibrand (D-NY, both) continued to use their cells. The flight attendant asked them both a second time to turn them off. The senators complied. Schumer and the attendant then got into a discussion on the details of the rule. After the attendant walked away, Schumer leaned over to Gillibrand and called the attendant a word that rhymes with "witch." This set-to would have gone nowhere, but the comment was overheard by a Republican who, of course, related the story to the media. Gillibrand initially downplayed the incident, saying that Schumer was polite. That unraveled when bloggers, with great hooplah, juxtaposed the words "polite" and "rhymes with witch." Gillibrand's office continued to support Schumer--instead now by reminding us that he apologized. Well done, Chuck! Way to demonstrate the civility with which the entitled class reacts when they are asked (the nerve!) to comply with the same rules that the rest of us must. Way to go Kristy! Dissemble until the full truth is known, and then downplay. Nice examples to set, both of you. |

| What shouldn't amaze me (but still does) is how the liberals on another board can downplay and excuse this behavior. Can you imagine the hue and cry if, for example, Dick Cheney had used the b-word! He'd be called a sexist, and, if he had still been in office, his resignation would be demanded. |
