So we had our down time and are still in first, we appear to be headed out of it, and our pitching has been better than anyone thought. A big surprise too many, and to some us, just even better than we had imagined.

What Do you guys think we should do?

I don't think we should make any big moves. I don't think we should trade any of our top prospects...Milledge, gomez, Martinez, Pelfrey, Humber, Guerra. I would be interested in trading for certain pieces if it didn't involve these guys.

Alou or Gomez, if and when alou returns?

My take, Gomez has been good, but not great. He will be a good player, but right now our lineup needs alou more.

If milledge comes back playing like he was when he got hurt, should he get a shot?

My take...definately. i believe that milledge is certainly the best of our prospects right now. and until the otehrs prove they are better, milledge is my top guy.

What type of moves would i be inte

an interesting thought was Brian Roberts in Baltimore, but i believe we'd have to give up too much to get him. BUt man would he be nice at second base over the next few years....just don't think he is worth milledge or Pelfrey.

I might trade Gomez for him though. I know, for some reason i am just not as big on him as a lot of people are. teh least proven is martinez, but i really like this kid. He's shown the most power of the three. I wouldn't trade milledge untill we are sure that gomez and martinez are the real thing.

So what is everyone else's take on our beloved mets?

Sorry, just getting used to the board controls...i did it again...lol. if you want delete the first one.

Being from Michigan, I am strictly a Tigers fan, so I hope you will forgive me if I don't partake in your conversation. :D

I don't know much about baseball. I only started paying attention when the Tigers went to the World Series last year. It's great fun to watch! Maybe I'll learn a thing or two more here about the game. :)

Well here's to the Mets/Tigers Series that should have happened last year.

Sorry, Thomas. I can't delete the first post. That kills the whole thread!

On topic: On the whole, I am happy with the team as constituted. It's be nice if we can get it completely healthy. The only trades I'd make would be for some surprising be of hardware provided by a team going seller. It would have to make sense long-term, not just for this season. We are in no desperate need of any rentals this year--barring some unforeseen circumstances.

I really like the team as is also.

I'm not sure what is up with them... they say familiarity breeds contempt. But something is up, just generally speaking. They don;t seem as into it as they were last year. You would think they would be more so since the other teams haven't laid down and died like last year.

It was great to take the two from Philly today though. For a team that was hot coming in and looking to take over - a sweep in a double header like that can be demoralizing. And with a couple of rookies pitching the next two games, you would think a sweep would be automatic... unfortunately, we have a penchant for making rookies look like Cy Young. So I'm not counting any chickens... I'll take 3 of 4 anyway.

Should be a good road trip though. Maybe this will be our 9-1 West Coast trip of last year and we'll come out of it 10 games up. That's be sweet going into the break.

I really like Gomez, and I really like Milledge. It seems the FO values Gomez higher right now. I would want to give Milledge a shot when he's healthy - but who do you send down? I would wait for Edge to get hot in AAA before bringing him up, and by then its likely that both Alou and Chavez will be back, which means Gomez will probably be gone too, unless Willy sends down Gotay instead.

The only piece I would consider trading for would be a top of the rotation guy, but there are not likely to be any available, and certainly not any that would be anything more than a rental, so I say pass. At least for now... but you never know what the next two months will bring. If Pedro comes back strong forget about it.

I suppose we could always bring in bullpen help, you can never have enough. But who and from where? I'm hearing we're interested in Otsuka (sp?) from Texas, but who do we have to cough up for him?

June was a rough month, but it looks like we've come out of it a bit. I'm ready to enjoy some good baseball again. Bottom line is, I trust Omar, and I will not question any of his moves again until they are proven to be failures. He's instilled that kind of confidence from me.

I agree, taht i am happy with the team as is, and would not try to bring in any type of rental players.

Not even a top of the rotation guy. Why? because what pitcher do we replace?

Obvious choice would be Sosa, but he has been pitching really well and will be replaced by Pedro eventually anyway. So then who else goes if we trade for a top of the rotation guy? Glaving has been our worst pitcher, but you know they aren't taking him out of the rotation, and probably not El duque either...which leaves our two best pitchers, John Maine second most wins in the NL and fourth best ERA, or Perez who has been pitching very well also.

Like i said the only enticing idea i have even heard was Brian roberts who could be our second baseman for three or four years. we'd probably have to give up too much for that though.

I like our team...i like our future.

As for the Tigers...I like them too.

Unfortunately, Sosa is now on the DL. He was certainly a pleasant surprise this year and most definitely seemed to benefit from the tutelage of our outstanding pitching coach - The Jacket. I guess Pelfrey is going to have to step in and get the job done. I believe that the Mets SHOULD look for a top-shelf starter between now and the deadline, but only if we can sign him. Glaving is iffy, as is Perez. I only really have confidence in Duque & Maine at this point & Duque is always a threat to wind up on the DL.

Well, with Perez hitting the DL, it is becoming more likely that the Mets will trade for a starter.

The Mets have done amazingly well for the level of injuries that they have this year. I don't ever remember a year when so many key players hit the DL with such frequency! Yet the Mets remain in first place.

I still would rather they didn't.. both Sosa and Perez should be back right after the break. I'm fine with Pelfrey and Vargas until then.

The issue becomes, what happens when Pedro comes back?
If we pick someone up, I would assume we would do so with the intention of having them in the rotation the rest of the year.

If it was just Pedro, then Sosa goes to the pen, and Sele goes to.... well, wherever he wants I guess...

But if we have another starter come in, who else leaves the rotation?

Glavine? Yeah right.
Duque? In limited service he has arguably been our best starter, stat wise.
Maine? No Way
Perez? No Way

That leaves you with a 6 man rotation, which still leaves 2 guys out when it comes to the post season...

This iks my problem as well. I'd say great get Buerhle, if they were going to get rid of Glavine, but we both no that won't happen, which means will lose one of our best starters this year....i just don't see the sense in doing that.
