Interleague play this year; and beyond!

Interleague play was tough on the Mets. However there is a huge upside.

Let's see: 9 road games 6 home. 12 games against contenders, 3 against scrubs. All the road games were against contenders. I figured the Mets would be 7-8 in that interleague play that was stacked against them. 6-9 is a bit disappointing, but tolerable considering that the rest of the season's schedule is stacked FOR the Mets.

The Mets have 7 more home games than away games in the second half and will be playing a far easier schedule: 29 games against the likes of DC, PIT, MIL, CHC, HOU and a total of 62 games agains sub-.500 teams. The only above .500 teams yet to play are Reds (3 away), Rockies (3 home, 3 away), Padres (3 at Shea), Dodgers (4 at Shea), and Cards (3 at Shea). Of our challenging games, 13 are on home turf and 6 are in enemy terrttory.

The Mets have played a tough first half (with arguably the toughest interleague schedule) and come out way on top of the NL. Watch out in the second half. The Mets will dominate more than they did in the first half.

The only way Philly gets in is to win out, SD or LA loses out (or both), and Philly wins any play-in game(s). Not likely.

Cincinnati needs 6 or 7 games to go their way (including 1 or 2 play-in games). Not likely.

Houston is in a slightly better position. They only need 5 of 6 to go their way (or, in the unlikely event of a three-way tie, 6 of 7) to go their way. Only somewhat less likely.

I think we see the playoffs seeded now. Mets are the top seed. Most likely LA (but, quite possibly, SD) will be the WC and play in NY. The other team will host STL.

Apart from seeding, the AL is settled. The only questions are whether the Tigers or the Twins will be the WC and who will be the top seed. If the Twins win out and the Yankees lose out, they tie for the top seed and have tied for the season series. I don't know what the second tie-breaker is. Even if the Tigers tie the Yankees, the Yankees seeding over them. Most likely the Yankees will mirror the Mets as the top seed in their league.

Glavine pitches a gem and wins the pitching duel! Three more wins and it's World Series time.
