Any combination of 137 Met wins and second place losses (technically, increases in the fewest losses by a competitor) and the Mets clinch the division. It is calculated by subtracting Met wins and fewest losses by a competitor from 163 (which is one more than the number of games to be played).

This formula works because, once the magic number reaches zero, the competitor has so many losses that they'd have to win the rest of their games plus one more just to tie. Since they don't have that "one more game," they can't even tie and the Mets have won the division.

Traditionally, magic numbers aren't even mentioned until they are about 20, sometime in September. However, the Mets have built up a nice early lead and the rest of the NL East does not seem to have any desire to win games, so I am being a bit presumptuous.

Anyway, with the Mets and the Braves (or the Phillies, if they should pass the Braves into second place) having a combined 282 games remaining, the Mets need 137 favorable outcomes while the Braves need 147. Of course, with the Mets playing the Braves, Met wins take 2 off their magic number and Brave wins take 2 off theirs (assuming that the Phils don't take over second).
