I don't mind this trade. Benson was a decent pitcher who showed some flashes of brilliance, but averaged out as just average. The Mets have a derth of legitimate relievers, while being flush with starters. I see Benson for Julio as a wash. Middle-of-the-pack starter for a middle-of-the-pack reliever

However, Maine could be a diamond in the rough. He is a starter on the cusp of being a major leaguer. His stats in the minors are outstanding, but his stats in the majors are horrible. Bear in mind, though, during his stint last season, he was used on an irregular schedule, and, apart from a cup of coffee in 2004, these were his first major league experiences. I am not so surprised by his five horrific performances as I am impressed by his six solid ones.

I have a feeling that Maine is going to be a big pickup for the Mets. He could well be a solid starter of the future or a big bargaining chip.
